is all about
Two Harkonnen sisters battle forces that threaten the future of humanity and found a fabled sect to be known as the Bene Gesserit. Whether they’re exploring the stars, escaping dystopias, or making the world a better place, these women are science fiction. This episode uses material from the Great Dune School trilogy by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.
Referred to in AniMat’s Crazy Cartoon Cast: The New Normal (2020)
The intro to the original dune tells how a Rossak sister evolved into a Bene Gesserit. The incident with Valya Harkonnen using the voice is from one called Mentats of Dune. All three books intertwine the development of the Sisters, Mentats, Navigators and Suk Doctors. I wanted to be short and to the point, but I felt compelled to expand on my thoughts.
So that’s it
There was a time when writers knew how to weave exposition into a narrative without it feeling forced and contrived. I understand it’s the first episode, but do they have to explain everything like it’s not common knowledge. Watson (Valya), Mark Strong (The Emperor), Travis Fimmel (Hart) and Sarah-Sofie Boussnina (The Princess) give good performances. I feel the show is in good hands.
They move history but are forgotten
The rest of the characters didn’t interest me. I guess we’ll see how that develops. I had a hard time concentrating on the first episode. It seemed to be part of a whole that could not be divided.
They did a great job with the images
I will wait for the whole season before consuming more episodes. The CGI is high quality, the costumes are perfect, and the tone of Villeneuve’s vision is maintained and expanded upon. The art department should win awards for how nice it looks.
