Sam Mendes’ upcoming Beatles biopic will likely feature Beatles music, however
Story
On Thursday 9th November 1961, a man called Brian walked down the stairs to a basement in Liverpool and changed the world forever. In a similar vein to 2023’s Priscilla, the Midas Man doesn’t use any Beatles music as they couldn’t get the rights to it, but other songs were used which they either got the rights to or were already in the public domain.
Not to be missed
A very watchable and engaging portrait of such an important figure of the 20th century. The Beatles we love so much may not have come to fruition without this man’s love for them and his passion and determination to ensure they succeeded.
His story needed to be told
The film perfectly showcases the stark contrast between the joy, positivity and honesty evident in Beatlemania and Brian’s personal life. A fantastic performance from the lead alongside a great supporting cast, with special mention to Blake Richardson (Paul McCartney).
Would have nine stars if the Beatles music had been available
Finally we have an actor who accurately portrays McCartney and not the usual weak and meek figure presented in previous Beatles films (Backbeat excluded). The inclusion of “All you Need Is Love” in the final scenes and Twist and Shout at The Royal Variety would have been very welcome. Highly recommended.
