When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel, and Bill Lawrence were asked how they got Harrison Ford on the show, Segel said that Goldstein originally wanted a “Harrison Ford type” and that he intended to audition people who looked like Ford.
Eventually, Goldstein talked to Ford and sold him the role
Segel told Goldstein that they should at least introduce him to Ford, thinking he would immediately reject him, but at least other people would know that Harrison Ford had been introduced to the project, which had attracted the interest of other famous actors. It’s pure and simple entertainment
Clearly written, great one-liners, enough pathos to keep the middle class from turning into The Big Bang Theory, it’s a joy to watch. Yes, real therapists wouldn’t do that, but anyone with a functioning brain cell would know that, so criticism from that perspective is just a negative to bring down the rating. Are some of the characters stereotypes?
Finally, who knew how good a light comedy actor Harrison Ford was?
Yes, but no one should be offended or taken for granted, you know, I worked with a gay guy who was exactly like the one shown here. The real success here is mixing the seriousness and heartbreak of therapy with the growing pains of life at different ages, stages, and walks of life, and making it damn fun. A complete revelation and the show is worth watching for that alone.
